Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced yesterday that Israel has decided to establish diplomatic relations with Kosovo, making Israel the 117th country to recognize Kosovo as an independent and free state.

We wholeheartedly thank the people of Israel for extending their friendship and compassion. This is an important step to acknowledge the suffering and struggle that both peoples are familiar with. The people of Kosovo had to fight for their right to exist in defiance of a relentless and cruel foe, a fight that was far from symbolic, and one that continues to this day.

Update: Recent developments indicate that Jamaica has not yet recognized Kosovo. Authorities in Prishtina have prematurely acknowledged this recognition without having received the Verbal Note.

While this situation gets clarified, we do extend our friendship and hope to be soon recognized by Jamaica into the family of free countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Kosovo has just announced that Republic of Suriname has recognizes Kosovo as an independent state.

Kosovo becomes member of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The decision was made at UEFA’s 40th Ordinary Congress in Budapest, Hungary.

This decision allows Kosovo to participate in football competitions organised by UEFA, including the European Cup.

Kosovo today became the 55th member of UEFA.
